Jerry,

(A congregation was mentioned here who had a certain compromiser in for a gospel meeting; one who was party to signing the AP support statement) … Here is the challenge for obedient Christians today: Imagine one being a member of that congregation and knowing and believing the truth contained in your article. (the great compromise of 2005).

The ideal task would be to kindly put enlightening materials before that leadership (daunting task, due to the fact that so many leaderships are dull of hearing and cannot be warned). The fact that they planned and carried through with having him for a meeting is telling of their disobedient mindset.

If that leadership did not repent, that faithful member would need to obediently (for his soul’s sake and that of his family) depart that church (of course by that time such an one would have been persecuted out anyway! or possibly before even getting the chance to instruct anyone of anything!) and find a congregation with a thinking, faithful leadership.

From my experience I have noted that many stay with the apostate leadership because there is literally nowhere to go in their area, where they will not be forced to fellowship error and errorists (false teaching and false teachers).

If the false teacher is not within that local congregation, the false teacher is being endorsed & financially supported as one of the so-called mission works of the church. That apostate preacher and his “work” will then be listed in the church bulletin and even on the church website for all to see. He will visit and speak at that church. He will be introduced as a great servant of the Lord. But the faithful Christian in such a congregation who is seeking to work out his own salvation with fear and trembling had better not say anything against this or he will be targeted for destruction!

So, it is my conviction that our battle is primarily with the church leaderships. If the church leaderships would abide in the doctrine of Christ on fellowship matters (2 John 9-11) (all other things being scriptural), then the rest (the members) would scripturally follow the leadership, OR 1) anxiously depart from those congregations (scatter like cockroaches when the light is turned on), or 2) be withdrawn from by those church leaderships (then those members [followers] would either repent or depart).

Only then would that church be pure as the chaste virgin of Christ. “For I am jealous over you with godly jealousy: for I have espoused you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ ” (2 Cor. 11:2).

I offer the obvious Biblical solution for such a one in Churches Falling Like Dominoes —  The Domino Effect.

Sadly, I have noted certain members who severely criticized the apostate leadership, stay at that church, and later be heard to say only positive things about that same apostate leadership. What changed in that leadership to warrant such honor? Nothing. …

Godspeed,
Gary

The reason the subject matter is so important is because of the perplexing situation the faithful Christian finds himself in today and what to do about it. There is the answer! It is the Biblical answer of course. It will take faith and that includes a backbone. — Gary

Gary,

Thank you for sharing this. You nailed it with the key word,  backbone. In all of my years of preaching, I have found that men who would not ever teach false doctrine are often spineless when it comes to opposing false doctrines. Paul told Titus that an elder must be one who is, “holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers” (Titus 1:9). It’s one thing to exhort with sound doctrine, but it takes backbone to oppose and “convince the gainsayers” with that same sound doctrine.
